Crazy Eights: how a round works

Try a more deliberate round

A careful first move helps you understand the round. After an eight, match the called suit or play another eight. The eight’s printed suit is not the active suit.

The purpose of your moves

The example and rules describe the same game you can play above. Empty your hand by matching the active suit or the top card’s rank. Eights let you choose the next suit. Start a new round when you are ready to try again.

Step by step

  1. Each player starts with five cards from a standard 52-card deck. The starting discard is not an eight.
  2. Play one matching card. An eight is always playable; choose its suit using the suit selector before tapping the card.
  3. After an eight, match the called suit or play another eight. The eight’s printed suit is not the active suit.
  4. Draw one card at a time when needed. Drawing does not end your turn; keep drawing or play a legal card.
  5. The stock is not recycled. With no stock and no legal card, pass. Two consecutive passes end the round in a draw.
  6. The first empty hand wins. New round deals again.

How to interact with the game

Keep the goal in view while choosing a move. Tap a playable card. Set the suit selector before playing an eight. Draw and Pass have separate buttons. Keep the goal in mind before your next move.

Try this example

A careful first move helps you understand the round. If 5♣ is on top, you can play another club, another five, or any eight. Calling hearts with an eight makes hearts the active suit. The game area remains available above the explanation.

Avoid this misunderstanding

Read the position before choosing your next action. Do not assume that every eight keeps its printed suit. The called suit is shown beside the discard pile. Try the rule on the board, then read the next instruction.
