Canfield Solitaire: from controls to your first round

Build familiarity through play

Keep the active rule in mind. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot. Use another round to revisit a decision.

Your objective

Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. Return to the explanation when a decision is unclear. Begin with the objective.

How to proceed

  1. Build tableau runs down in alternating colours, wrapping ace to king. Reserve cards refill empty columns automatically.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Move exposed cards onto suit foundations in the stated rank order.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Your inputs

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. The same rule applies on a phone and on a computer. Keep the active rule in mind.

Put the rules into context

With base rank 5, a foundation runs 5 through king, then ace through 4. Check the relevant controls before continuing.

A useful caution

Treat this as a chance to practise one rule. Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Return to the explanation when a decision is unclear.
